The 2010 Oberammergau Passion Play is “Here and We Now Have Confirmed Tickets.”

The Oberammergau Passion play has survived from the Middle Ages into modern times. Its subject is the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Passion plays were first given in Latin. By the 13th century they included German verses, and 200 years later the entire play was performed in German. Toward the end of the 15th century, the passion plays had become far more secular in content, having been degraded, in a religious sense, through their contact with carnival plays. Ecclesiastical authorities forbade their production and only a few were revived after the Counter Reformation. The chief survival among the passion plays is the one performed at Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps. This entirely amateur performance has been given every 10 years (last in 1990, originally in 1634, with only three interruptions caused by war) in fulfillment, it is said, of a vow that was made during a plague. Passion plays have been revived in a few cities in W Europe.

About the Passion Play Arrangement

The play performance is in two parts, the morning and afternoon with a break for lunch in between. The Passion Play performances are scheduled from mid May through October 2010. Tickets to the Passion Play are packaged with accommodations for 1 or 2 nights including breakfast and dinner each day and lunch on the day of the play. Accommodations are in Private Homes or Holiday Apartments, all with either private bath or shower in Oberammergau or in the neighboring villages, with free transfers to and from the Passion Play theater.

Booking and making the initial reservations

Once your tour is booked with a departure date an initial deposit of $350 per person will be due immediately. All Oberammergau Passion Play programs will require a second payment of $750 by July 1, 2009. (We now have our confirmed Oberammergau arrangements and tickets with the written confirmations directly for these arrangements from the Oberammergau Committee for the entire Passion Play starting May 15, 2010 through September 2010. Space will be limited on a first come first serve basis, so now is the time to book and collect the initial deposits to protect your passengers for the Passion Play accommodations and tickets.) Final payments will be due 120 days prior to your departure. 120 days prior to departure date, all cancellations will apply per our Tour Conditions.
