Beauty and Washing Tips

You do not need a large supply of toilet preparations and cosmetics. Take normal sizes. You will find adequate supplies of your favorite brands or satisfactory substitutes in most countries. Some hotels abroad do not furnish washcloths or facial soap. If you use them, take them with you.

Liquids have a tendency to expand at high altitudes. If you cannot transfer your liquids to plastic bottles make sure your bottles are only three-quarters full and the caps are screw-on type instead of corks. For still greater safety put all liquid and cream containers in plastic bags. Such bags are also useful for your damp washcloth or bathing suit, and are ideal for your shoes. Plastic hangers with collapsible arms will prevent rust stains on your damp clothing when you hang them up to dry. And some packets of a quick wash or cold water detergent will come in handy.

Electric appliances, such as an electric shaver or a travel iron, can be taken with you; but most European & Middle Eastern countries use 220 Volts and your appliances will need a converter, as well as an International Plug. Some of the hotels where you will be staying abroad carry converters. Ask the chambermaid.

We suggest that you do not bring a handbag along with you overseas. The most popular method is to bring a "fanny pack." These bags can be worn around the waist and eliminate the fear of setting a handbag down and forgetting it. It also keeps your hands free so that you can concentrate on "getting that picture." These bags have compartments so that you can carry your passport, currency and travel documents with you at all times. We recommend that you have a small carry-on bag that you use for your camera, snacks, or any other items that you might require. This can be left on the bus during the day and eliminates the need for carrying it all with you as you visit the sites.
